Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte / Extremely Rare Limited Edition / Quarter Dark Red Leather Bound / 22ct Gold Accent Decoration / Illustrated

Produced to an exceptionally high standard, this is a copy of Charlotte Bronte's classic novel Jane Eyre. It is an extremely rare copy produced for the subscribers to the Oxford Library of the World's Great Books. It has a special message printed at the beginning of the book from the Editors especially for the subscribers of this edition. In very good condition with just some light scuffing to the 22 carat gold page edges being the only condition point to note. (You can only see this on holding the book right up to the light, and it does not get picked up by the camera in the photos). Definitely has the feel of having never been read.

Oxford University Press selected The Franklin Library in 1984 to produce this special edition and it is made to the high standards to be expected from Franklin. It is printed on archival paper with gilt edges, has marbled endpapers and a deep red silk ribbon marker. It is quarter bound in dark red leather, with raised bands on the spine and 22 carat gold accenting decoration. In addition to the Editors' note there is included the Preface to the 1847 and 1848 editions by Currer Bell (Bronte's pseudonym) and black and white illustrations by Skip Liepke (see photos for an example).

Inside the pages are clean, crisp, bright and the book has never been written in. There are the above-mentioned light scuffs to the gold edging around the outside, however, the gilt itself is sparkly bright. Has a dark red place marker ribbon.

The deep wine-red cloth covered boards are extremely attractive. The leather spine with raised bands and gold work all remain absolutely excellent ensuring this looks extremely eye-catching on display.
