c1900 Adam Bede by George Eliot / SW Partridge & Co., London / Illustrated / Beautiful Antique Book

Here is a lovely antique copy of Adam Bede by George Eliot. Undated but would have been published by SW Partridge & Co., London in the early 1900s. With beautiful Art Nouveau design and with six black and white illustrations.

Inside the pages have tanned but are clean and tightly bound. With some tanning and toning to the closed outside edges. Has a small pencil inscription which has been erased on the reverse of the frontispiece. Otherwise, this copy has not been written in and there are no other markings of previous ownership. With cracked hinges at the front and back to reveal webbing, giving the boards a mild wobble.

Bright red cloth covered boards have decoration to the front and spine. With some rubbing and mild bumping to the corner tips. Has a couple of slightly faded areas on the back. There is some rubbing to the cloth at the spine ends and also to the title plate on the spine (see photos). The decoration remains bright and this is a very attractive book.
