Here is a lovely antique hardback edition of At The Back of the North Wind by George Macdonald. Undated but would have been published around 1905 by Blackie and Son Ltd, London. In a beautiful Art Nouveau style binding, with twelve colour plates plus line drawings. Has a bit of wear. Condition in detail below.

At the Back of the North Wind is a children's book originally written in 1868. It is a fantasy centred on a boy named Diamond and his adventures with the North Wind. Diamond travels together with the mysterious Lady North Wind through the nights.

Inside the book opens and closes with gorgeous illustrated endpapers. Has mild spotting to some early pages, and tanning/spotting to the fore-edge. Has a slight "old book" smell. The pages are rough cut on the outer edge and some are very rough on the corners, with some loss - see photos - but not effecting the text. This copy has not been written in, and there are no other markings of previous ownership. The book has developed a mild lean over time.

Petrol blue-green cloth over boards have ornate Art Nouveau decoration to the front and spine, gilt cabbage roses and a paste down illustration. With some rubbing to the cloth on the corners and spine ends. Some rubbing to remove a little of the colour to the top front corner. With a few faint marks on the back.
