Antique Girl Neighbours by Sarah Tytler c1905 - Lovely Decorative Boards

In a delightful decorative binding, here is an antique copy of Girl Neighbours by Sarah Tytler. Undated, but with a prize bookplate from 1905 on the front paste down. Published by Blackie & Son, London. With six black and white illustrated plates.

Girl Neighbours is a quietly humorous and socially observant Victorian novel. The story centres on two girls _ Harriet Cotton from a refined, upper-middle class background and Sapientia Stubbs, from the lower classes, with a more practical upbringing. Though they live next door to each other, their families’ differing social and educational values keep them apart—until a series of events (including an accident, a fever, and a smallpox scare) gradually bring them together. Their evolving friendship is subtly aided by the brother of one of the girls.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Has a good deal of spotting to the closed outside edges (see photos), and milder, scattered spotting in the text. Has the above-mentioned prize plate, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. All six plates are present as called for.

In bright red cloth over boards with decoration to the front and spine. All in top order - the decoration bright and the gilt shiny. An extremely eye-catching book on display.
