1966-76 Three Early Paddington Bear Books / Paddington at Work (1st Ed. 1966), More About Paddington (1966), Paddington Takes The Air (1976)

I was excited to uncover these three early Paddington Bear books by Michael Bond. Paddington at Work (1966) is actually a scarce first edition, first impression. There is also More About Paddington being a first edition, fourth impression from 1966 and Paddington Takes the Air - a first edition, fourth impression from 1976. Paddington is one of my personal favourites from childhood. All have their original colourful dust wrappers and are richly and amusingly illustrated. They are all children's vintage hardbacks of around fifty years old and so inevitably have some signs of age and wear (detailed below), but remain a lovely set.

Paddington at Work - scarce first edition with dust wrapper. The jacket has a 6cm split down the outside fore-edge (see main photo), and has been price-clipped but is otherwise very good indeed. Bright and unfaded. Inside the book has a name and address and some writing in a child's hand on the front free endpaper and also on the rear endpaper. I have partially obscured the name and address in the photos for data protection. The pages have some spotting and brown blemishes and the outside edges have some tanning and spotting.

More About Paddington is a very early edition from 1966. This jacket has some loss at the spine ends and corners (see photos), and some brown staining. With nicks along the edges. Inside the text has the occasional spot and brown blemish. All three books have a scuff mark at the top of the front free endpaper where it looks as if previous price labels have been removed, but this is minor. Has some tanning and spotting to the closed outside edges.

Paddington Takes the Air has a clean and bright jacket with just a little rubbing at the corners and spine ends. With an elegantly inked inscription to the front free endpaper. Text block is clean and bright.

All three books have now been protected for the future by the addition of removable plastic sleeves.
