In good condition, here is a vintage copy of a highly respected biography of Austen by Elizabeth Jenkins. Published by Victor Gollancz, London in 1950. Jenkins, herself a novelist and biographer, approached Austen’s life with literary sensitivity rather than academic detachment. At the time the Introduction claimed to be the only strictly chronological autobiography.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with no writing or inscriptions. Has a good deal of spotting to the outside edges (see photos), and lighter spotting sprinkled sporadically through the text. Unillustrated.

In the original unclipped grey dust jacket with pink titles. Has some edge wear nicks and some tanning to the spine. Otherwise clean and smart. It has now been protected for the future by a removable plastic sleeve.
