Mr. Midshipman Hornblower follows the early naval career of Horatio Hornblower as an inexperienced, sea-sick seventeen-year-old midshipman entering the Royal Navy in 1794 during the French Revolutionary Wars. Across ten interconnected episodic stories, Hornblower navigates intense naval engagements, duels, captivity, and hazardous command decisions, showcasing the quick wits, strict sense of duty, and quiet vulnerability that define his character. Although published in 1950 as the sixth novel written in C.S. Forester's famous series, it serves as the ultimate prequel and chronologically first chapter in the Hornblower saga, establishing the foundation for his eventual rise through the naval ranks.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Has an inscription on the front free endpaper, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. A little spotting to the closed outside edges.

In the original unclipped dust jacket. Also in very good order. Strong, unfaded colours. Has some edge wear along the top and to spine head where there are a couple of small nicks and some chips (see photos). With a couple of very thin, faint scratches to the back. Mild rubbing to corners and spine joints. The jacket has now been protected for the future by the addition of a removable plastic sleeve, and looks very presentable indeed.
