In very good condition, here is a collection of six vintage C.S. Forester hardbacks. Five from the Horatio Hornblower series, plus The General. All published between 1949 and 1950 by Michael Joseph of London. In their 4/6 series known as The Cheap Edition. All with their original dust wrappers. More details below.
Comprising: The Happy Return; A Ship of the Line; Flying Colours; The Commodore; Lord Hornblower plus The General.
The first five are part of the extensive Horatio Hornblower series. The General is a critically well received novel that offers a psychological exploration of British military leadership during World War I. It remains one of Forester's most respected works for its nuanced, realistic portrait of military inertia and the tragic consequences of outdated doctrine.
All of the contents are in top order. Lord Hornblower has an inked name to the front free endpaper. Spotting to the top edges.
In their bright yellow dust wrappers which have survived very well. All are unclipped and complete, with a few nicks and chips to the top edges, and the odd small closed tear. They have all now been protected for the future by the addition of removable archival plastic sleeves. Looking great together as a vintage set.
Your C.S. Forester collection will be wrapped with care and sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message to the parcel.
