1944 Pride and Prejudice - Illustrated Vintage Jane Austen Book

Here is a superb vintage version of Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice. Published in 1944 by Oxford at the Clarendon Press. One of the most comprehensive editions of her novels. With additional notes, illustrations and facsimile reproductions of the first edition title page, plus early illustrations. Condition in detail below.

The book opens onto a bookplate and inked inscription to the front free endpaper. No other writing or markings of previous ownership. Pages clean and tightly bound with just the occasional spot and brown blemish. One page has a closed tear near the top - but still perfectly possible to read the text (see photos). In addition to the text this copy also includes a Chronology; An essay on Pride and Prejudice and Cecilia; Modes of Address and an Index of Characters.

In the original price-clipped dust wrapper. This has some chips and a little loss to the corners and spine ends. Some tanning to the spine and some scuffs there also. Otherwise jacket clean and smart. The wrapper has now been protected for the future by the addition of a removable plastic archival sleeve.
