1930 Quality Street by JM Barrie / Hodder & Stoughton, London / Beautifully Illustrated by Hugh Thomson / In Very Good Condition

If you are wanting top quality illustrations, they don't come much better than these. A beautiful vintage edition of JM Barrie's play Quality Street, undated but published in 1930 by Hodder & Stoughton, London. With eighteen detailed and charming hand tipped-in colour plates by Hugh Thomson and further beautiful black line drawn illustrations and decorations in the text (see photos). In very good condition, with an interesting prize bookplate and prize letter still tucked inside.

Quality Street is a comedy in four acts by J. M. Barrie, written before his more famous work Peter Pan. The story is about two sisters who start a school "for genteel children".

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. All of the lovely colour plates are present and in good condition with their decorative tissue guards. The top closed edge has a little staining near the spine (see final close-up photo), but the pages themselves are absolutely fine. Has a prize bookplate on the front paste down along with the original prize notification letter which has been tucked inside the book for all these years. A charming addition to the book.

Blue cloth covered boards have gorgeous gilt decoration to the front and gilt titles on the spine. With a blind stamped border around the edges of the front board. With just some light foxing to the surface blue in places. The gilt titles are shiny bright.
