1930 Domnei by James Branch Cabell - Frank C Papé Illustrated Antique Book

With absolutely wonderful illustrations - here is an antique copy of Domnei - A Comedy of Woman Worship by James Branch Cadell. Published in 1930 by John Lane, The Bodley Head, London. With ten illustrated plates, plus thirty framed drawings of the highest order by Frank C Papé. In very good condition - with just a few points to note, detailed below.

A highly collectible comic fantasy novel set in the fictional, medieval French province of Poictesme. The novel tells the courtly, satirical love story of the knight Perion of the Forest and Melicent, daughter of Count Manuel.

Frank Cheyne Papé was an English artist and illustrator whose work included painting using gouache, watercolour, and illustration in pen and ink. He is one of the highest regarded artists from the Golden Age of Book Illustration.

Inside this copy the pages are clean and bright. Mild spotting to the early pages and tanning/spotting to the closed outside edges. No inscriptions or markings of previous ownership. Opens onto wonderful illustrated endpapers, then has ten of the most fantastic illustrations you'll see for any novel. All present as called for. Each chapter also begins with a framed drawing. The top closed edge is tinted red, with the fore-edge untrimmed.

Black cloth over boards have gilt decoration to the front and spine. Has some minor rubbing/rounding to the cloth on the corners and spine ends. One thin scuff to the fore-edge front. Overall very smart indeed.
