1928 The Watsons by Jane Austen / Vintage Copy of Her Unfinished Novel

In excellent condition here is a vintage hardback first edition copy of The Watsons by Jane Austen. Published in 1928 by Elkin Mathews & Marrot Ltd, London. A superb copy.

The Watsons is an unfinished novel of five chapters, often known as a fragment of a novel. She began writing it around 1803 and probably abandoned it after her father's death in January 1805. However, it was not published until 1871, as part of James Edward Austen-Leigh's Memoir. Jane Austen had left the manuscript untitled, the title of "The Watsons" was provided by Austen-Leigh.

This edition is the original work continued and completed by her Great Grand-Niece Edith and also Francis Brown.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound with no writing or markings of previous ownership. Has a crease to the bottom of the front free endpaper which also has an inked inscription from 1937.

Grey papered boards have blue decoration and titles. With a petrol blue cloth spine and gilt titles. Again in top order. Blue cloth on the spine has tanned just a little. Gilt titles on the spine are shiny bright.
