A wonderfully illustrated large format children's book. The Now-A-Days Fairy Book by Anna Alice Chapin. Undated but published in 1928 by J Coker & Co., London. With six wonderful large colour plates by Jessie Willcox Smith (see photos). The contents and plates are in super condition. With just a bit of wear to the spine cloth and back board.
Contents: The Fairy Ring; Fairy Talk; The Story of the Four Elfin Princes; The Three Bears; The Toys' Holiday; The Shadow Room; Snow White and the Magic Mirror; Beauty and the Beast; The Old Woman Who Sweeps Cobwebs From The Sky; The Mist Island; The Seven Playing Princesses; The Sleeping Beauty; Roma's Story; Little Red Riding Hood; The House Goblins; The Witch Night; A Gypsy Princess; Goodbye.
Inside the pages are in very good condition for a book of this age being clean and tightly bound. All of the plates are present and in good condition. This copy has not been written in and there are no other markings of previous ownership.
In papered thick boards with red cloth spine. The front board and illustration are clean and bright. There is rubbing to the edges at the corners to reveal boards beneath in places. The rear board has some fading and a ring mark (see photos). The red spine cloth has some small splits at the ends. There is some fraying to the cloth along the joints and a 3cm split down from the top on the joint with the rear board (see final close-up photo).
