Here is a special copy of the celebrated adventure novel Beau Geste by Percival Christopher Wren. Signed by the author this is a deluxe edition published in 1927 and is number 699 of 1,000 copies produced. From Wren's own library with a dedicated bookplate which reads: "To George Watson Esq, With The Author's Kindest Rememberances". A richly illustrated edition, in good condition with some sun fading to the boards and spine being the only real condition point of note.
Beau Geste details the adventures of three English brothers who enlist separately in the French Foreign Legion following the theft of a valuable jewel from the country house of a relative. First published in 1924, the novel is set in the period before World War I. It has been adapted for the screen several times. This copy has at the end The Song of the Legion which is the march theme to the Paramount Picture movie.
Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Gilt edged along the top with the other two sides untrimmed. Opens with the book plate and there is also an inked name and address at the top of the front free endpaper of a member of the Watson family. I have blurred this photo for data protection. Otherwise no other writing or markings of previous ownership. With a portrait frontispiece, four colour and sixteen black and white plates, each with a clean and bright tissue guard. There are also illustrated head pieces at the start of each chapter.
In blue cloth covered boards with red cloth spine and paper title plate. All clean and smart. With fading to the cloth on the spine and slightly over onto the top of the back board. The paper title plate has tanned and rubbed in places. The binding remains very tight and square with no cracked hinges.
Your signed special edition copy of Beau Geste will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift card with message to the parcel.
H 23.5 cm x W 16.5 cm, 579 pages, 1 kg. I dispatch worldwide daily from the UK. (There are just a very few countries which I am unable to ship to).
* If you would prefer for your book not to be decoratively wrapped and sent simply in the full protective packaging please add a note to the order.
