1920s Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll - Illustrated Antique Book

Scarce in this illustrated edition, here is a vintage copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. A large and striking edition. Undated, but would have been published in the 1920s by George Harrap & Co., Ltd of London. It has eight wonderful colour plate illustrations by Bessie Pease as well as a number in black line. Condition of the contents is very good - with fading to the spine. Condition in full below.

Bessie Pease was an American artist and illustrator, most noted for her paintings of young children. During the early 1900s she was one of the better-known magazine and book illustrators in the United States.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. With spotting to the early pages, and then scattered sporadically through the text. Has an elegantly-inked inscription opposite on the front free endpaper, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. All of the colour plates are present as called for. Every page of text in an intricate illustrated border. Spotting to the closed outside edges, and toning along the closed top.

Grey boards have colour illustrated paste down to the front, and dark blue titles. The boards have some mild spotting, and some rubbing/rounding to the corners. With a few faint marks but overall boards are very smart. The blue cloth spine has faded a good deal. With a few spots also. The titles and white rabbit on the spine are un-faded and stand out as easily legible. Rubbing to the cloth on the spine ends and joints. The binding remains very good and strong.
