1919 Unique Copy of Rip Van Winkle in a Custom Leather Binding

Research shows this to be a completely unique copy of Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving. With 24 superb colour plates by Arthur Rackham. The book itself was a later edition of a 1905 edition published by William Heinemann, London. This copy dates to 1919, the contents are not what is unusual - it is the leather binding. From my digging it appears that Heinemann never produced a leather bound version of this edition and so this copy would have been custom rebound to the requirements of the original owner. It is soft brown leather with Rackham style tree and cobweb tooled design and green accents. With yapp overlapping edges.

Even without the striking leather binding, this is a super edition of the tale with 24 of Rackham's tissue-guarded colour plates, plus line decorations (see photos). All present as called for. Contents are clean, bright and tightly bound with no writing or markings of previous ownership. The top closed edge is tinted brown.

There is some scuffing to the leather, mostly to the spine. With rubbing around the edges and to spine joints. Some slight splitting of the cloth on the spine ends - but minor.
