1919 The Orange Fairy Book : Beautifully Illustrated Vintage Book

In excellent condition, here is a beautifully illustrated collection of fairy tales being a vintage book in the highly sought-after coloured fairy books series by Andrew Lang. These are becoming increasingly hard to get hold of. The Orange Fairy Book was originally published in 1906, by Longmans, Green and Co., London and this copy is a reprint from 1933. This edition was produced with blind stamped decoration on the front as opposed to the earlier gilt edition. Richly illustrated with eight colour plates, black and white plates plus numerous illustrations in the text by HJ Ford. In superb order with just a couple of minor condition points to note, detailed below.

Lang had grown up with a love of myths and fables and towards the end of the 1880s he began to collect and publish some of his favourite tales. The Blue Fairy Book, was the result, published in 1889 it met with great critical acclaim. The Red Fairy book appeared in Christmas of the following year. Lang went on to produce a series of twelve collections of fairy tales, published between 1889 and 1910. Each volume is distinguished by its own colour. In all, 437 tales from a broad range of cultures and countries are presented. The Orange Fairy Book includes story sources from Jutland, Rhodesia, Uganda, and various other European traditions

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. A small nick to the fore-edge of three pages. The only real CONDITION POINT to note with this copy is some indents to the pages which are either where some writing has been erased, or where the imprint of some writing where the book has been used to rest on, have been left. You have to look hard to spot these. Otherwise the pages are in top order - all the colour plates are present as called for, and the frontispiece still has the original tissue guard in place which is clean and smart. Mild tanning around the outside edges.

Orange cloth covered boards have blind stamped decoration to the front and gilt titles to the spine. Again in top order. The orange has remained very strong. A few light creases to the cloth, otherwise excellent.
