A superb antique copy of Hans Andersen's Fairy Stories. Undated but would have been published in 1917 by Ward, Lock & Co., London. With forty-eight superb full-page colour plates by Margaret Tarrant (see photos). In good condition, with a prize bookplate and some slight fading to the cloth being the main condition points to note.
Tales included in this volume are: The Little Swineherd; The Nightingale; The Steadfast Tin Soldier; The Emperor's New Clothes; The Real Princess; The Ugly Duckling; The Flying Trunk; Thumbelina; The Little Mermaid; The Tinder Box; The Candles; The Snow Queen.
Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Has the above-mentioned prize bookplate on the verso of the frontispiece (see photos). But no other writing or markings of previous ownership. Has illustrated endpapers, and the forty-eight colour plates are all present as called for and in good condition.
Dark red cloth covered bards have black stamped decoration and a colour paste down from the Snow Queen in the centre of the front board. Again all in very good order - clean and smart. The only real condition point to note is some slight fading to the cloth at the top of the boards and to the spine.
Your antique hardback copy of Hans Andersen's Fairy Stories will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and will be sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message to the parcel.
