1913 Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray - Large Antique Illustrated Book

In very good condition, here is a beautiful large-format antique copy of William Makepeace Thackeray's classic work Vanity Fair. Richly illustrated in colour. Undated, but was published by Hodder & Stoughton, London in 1913. Condition in detail below.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Opens onto lovely illustrated endpapers, these have some spotting. Also has spotting around the outside edges of the pages, and a small ink blot to the closed fore-edge (see photos). With twenty superb tipped in-colour plates by Lewis Baumer - all present as called for. These have their original tissue guards still in place. This copy has not been written in and there are no other markings of previous ownership.

Light-brown cloth over boards have ornate decoration to the front and gilt titles to the spine. With a black decorative border around an oval paste-down colour illustration and red and black titles to the front. The pink portrait illustration has a small chip on the top edge. Has some mild rubbing to the cloth on the outside fore-edge and the spine head. Otherwise bright, clean and un-faded. A very attractive book to display.
