1911 Stories From Hans Andersen / 1st Edition Thus - Illustrated by Edmund Dulac

In very good condition. With twenty-eight wonderful mounted colour plates, here is an absolutely beautiful antique copy of Stories from Hans Andersen. Published in 1911 by Hodder & Stoughton, London - it is a first edition thus. A large format edition. With just a bump to the top corner being the only real condition point to note - more details below.

One of the high points from the Golden Age of Illustration. It is considered one of Dulac’s most successful and beautifully produced books.

Contents: The Snow Queen; The Nightingale; The Real Princess; A Garden Paradise; The Mermaid; The Emperor's New Clothes; The Wind's Tale.

Inside the book opens onto decorative peacock endpapers. Some tanning to these (see photos). All of the beautiful colour plates are present as called for, and all are in top condition. The frontispiece has the original captioned tissue-guard in place. On the reverse of the frontis is a neatly-inked name. No other inscriptions or markings of previous ownership.

Olive-green cloth over boards have ornate gilt decoration to the front and spine, and gilt titles. Has the above-mentioned bumping to the top front corner (see close-up photo), but otherwise also in top order. A little rubbing and fraying to the cloth on the spine ends. The gilt Snow Queen and other decoration has remained shiny bright.
