1911 Aucassin and Nicolette / Beautifully Decorated and Illustrated Antique Edition / Adam and Charles Black, London / In Good Condition

Here is a beautifully decorative antique copy of the medieval French love story Aucassin and Nicolette. Delightfully decorated by the collectable illustrator Anne Anderson. Published in 1911 by Adam and Charles Black, London. In very good condition.

Aucassin and Nicolette was composed probably in Northern France at about the close of the 12th century and survived only in a single manuscript.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Has a nick to the bottom edge of one page, but nowhere near the text. This is an absolutely beautifully decorated book. With ornate gilt borders around each page of text. All six colour plates are present and are in super condition. The top closed edge is gilt.

Cream boards have gorgeous blue and gilt decoration to the front and spine, and gilt titles. Also in very good order. Has some rubbing to the cloth on the corners and to reveal the board beneath at the bottom front. Has some very mild rubbing around the edges and to spine ends, a faint brown mark on the top front and a very faint dark mark on the back - but all minor and this is a super, eye-catching edition.
