1907 The Historic Thames by Hilaire Belloc : Richly Illustrated

In excellent condition, here is an antique hardback copy of The Historic Thames by Hilaire Belloc. With 59 superb colour plates by AR Quinton. Being a first edition published in 1907 by JM Dent & Co., London.

A richly descriptive historical travelogue that traces the River Thames from its upper reaches to London, blending archaeology, legend, medieval history, geography, and Belloc’s own philosophical reflections.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound with no writing or markings of previous ownership. The top edge is gilt.

Lime-green cloth over boards have ornate gilt decoration to the front and spine, and gilt titles. Again in very good order. With a couple of scuffs to the surface green on the back. Mild rubbing to the cloth on the corners and spine ends. A little fraying to the cloth at the spine head and tail. The decoration on the spine has rubbed a little in comparison with the front. Gilt titles are bright and this is a large and striking book.
