1906 The Child's Christmas / Brilliantly Illustrated by Charles Robinson / Tells the Story of an English Family's Old-Fashioned Christmas

This really is Christmas in a book! A wonderful antique copy of The Child's Christmas, with fantastic illustrations throughout the book by Charles Robinson. Tells the story of an English family's old-fashioned Christmas, with chapters on putting up decorations; carol singers; hanging up stockings; a Christmas party; Christmas dinner; a snowball fight; ice skating amongst many others. Undated but published in 1906 by Blackie & Son, London. A large book (see dimensions below).

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. With the occasional light brown spot and blemish and a few faint dark handling marks. Has an inked inscription on the half-title page (see photos), but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. With illustrated endpapers, thirty-eight colour plates and many line drawings by Robinson. Each colour plate is as eye-catching as a vintage poster. All edges are shiny gilt. Has a sticker in the corner of the rear paste down from Hamley's the famous London toy store which still exists today, and is where this copy was obviously first purchased.

Bright red cloth covered boards have ornate gilt decoration to the front and spine. With some fading to the red cloth in spots on the front and more so to the spine. Has rounding and rubbing to the cloth at the corners, revealing boards beneath at the tips. With rubbing and fraying of the cloth at the spine ends and with a split to the cross across the head. The lovely gilt decoration remains sparkly bright and this is an eye-catching book to display.
