In very good condition, here is an antique copy of Jane Austen's Sailor Brothers by Hubback & Hubback. Being a first edition, published by John Lane, The Bodley Head, London in 1906. Richly illustrated with black and white photos.

A wonderfully revealing piece of early Austen family biography. One of the first substantial attempts to document the naval careers of Sir Francis Austen and Rear‑Admiral Charles Austen, written by two of their own descendants. The authors had access to family papers, letters, and oral history, giving the book a uniquely intimate perspective.

Sir Francis Austen eventually became Admiral of the Fleet. He served in the Napoleonic Wars and beyond. His career and character strongly influenced Jane’s naval officers, especially in Persuasion.

Rear‑Admiral Charles Austen served in the Caribbean, North America, and the Mediterranean. He was known for his bravery and for commanding ships in major engagements. His letters to Jane are some of the most vivid in the family archive.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound with no writing or markings of previous ownership. With just the odd nick to the fore-edge.

Olive-green cloth over boards have gilt titles to the spine. Again clean and smart. Mild rubbing to the corners and spine ends. The gilt titles have dulled a bit over time.
