1903 Mansfield Park by Jane Austen / Macmillan and Co., London / 40 Wonderful Drawings by Hugh Thomson / In Very Good Condition / Antique

I am thrilled to turn up this 1903 version of Mansfield Park published by Macmillan and Co., London. It is an illustrated edition of the novel with 40 beautiful drawings by Hugh Thomson which have gone on to help generations of readers picture the novels (see photos). There is also an Introduction by Austin Dobson. In very good condition.

Inside the pages are superb, in fact the best for any copy of this edition that I have had so far to date. They are remarkably clean and bright. With some tanning and spotting only to the endpapers and then there are just a couple of marks to the pages in the entire rest of the book. The frontispiece illustration still has the original tissue guard in place, (the tissue has tanned with time). This copy has not been written in and there are no other markings of previous ownership.

Bound in the original publisher's period binding of deep red cloth covered boards. They have a blind stamped floral design incorporating an "M" for Macmillan. With just a couple of faint marks one on the front and the other on the back, and some rubbing along the very outside edges.

The MAIN CONDITION POINT to note with this copy is fading of the red cloth on the spine and slightly round onto the front board. The gilt titles remain bright.
