1901 Gutta-Percha Willie by George MacDonald / Blackie & Son, London / Lovely Antique Hardback Book / Delightfully Illustrated

Here is a lovely antique book - by George Macdonald the author of The Princess and the Goblin, The Princess and the Curdie and At the Back of the North Wind. This is a copy of Gutta-Percha Willie, published by Blackie and Son Limited of London. Undated, but produced in 1901. With charming illustrations to the boards and inside by Laurence Housman and Arthur Hughes (see photos). In good condition and looks eye-catching on the antique bookshelf with its intricate Art Nouveau styling. You can get the other works by George Macdonald in the matching binding for a beautiful collection.

Inside the contents are good with bright and tightly bound pages. Just the occasional faint handling mark, and some toning on the closed top edge. All eight black and white plates are present.

In teal-blue cloth covered boards with super decoration by Laurence Housman. Being a stamped brown design of a lady bending to catch falling leaves. Also in good order. Has rubbing to the cloth on the corners and spine ends/joints. The gilt has also rubbed a little on the spine. Otherwise clean and bright.
