1896 The Black Arrow by Robert Louis Stevenson - Antique, Fine Binding

Here is an attractively bound antique copy of The Black Arrow - A Tale of Two Roses by Robert Louis Stevenson. In a fine leather binding with superb marbled endpapers and marbled page edges. Has eight black and white illustrations by Paget.

The Black Arrow is a historical fiction, adventure romance. Set in 15th century England during the Wars of the Roses. The story follows Richard "Dick" Shelton, a young squire who uncovers the truth behind his father's murder. As he investigates, he becomes entangled with a band of outlaws known as The Black Arrow, led by Ellis Duckworth, whose signature weapon is—you guessed it—a black arrow.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Has a prize book plate on the front paste down dated 1898, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership.

Very well bound in black leather, with marbled papered sides and gilt decoration. Has some rubbing to the corner pieces and some loss to the surface leather on the bottom rear corner (see photos). Some slight rubbing also to the marbled paper with a small area of loss to the surface on the front. The spine has five raised bands with gilt decoration in the compartments and a dark Moroccan leather title plate. With just the odd light scuff - but minor.
