In very good condition, here is a charming antique copy of Beyond the Border by Walter Douglas Campbell. Published in 1898 by Archibald Constable & Co., London. Richly illustrated by Helen Stratton. In extremely eye-catching dark-green boards with gilt witch and witch's cat decoration. Condition in detail below.

A collection of short stories. The tone is folkloric, playful, and occasionally eerie. Very much in line with the late‑Victorian fascination with Scottish myth, sprites, trolls, and moral parables. Often featuring: enchanted animals; mischievous trolls; magic.

Opens onto small inked inscriptions at the top of the front paste down and free endpaper. Tanning to some of the pages, and a few faint dark handling marks. Folds to a couple of corners. Partial cracked hinge at the back to reveal webbing, but in no way effecting the binding of the text block which is good and strong. Gilt edged on all three sides, and this has remained shiny bright.

Dark green cloth over boards have wonderful gilt decoration to the front and spine. With a witch dropping toads into a cauldron on the front and witch's cats on the spine. An extremely eye-catching book. Some light scuffing to the back board. Rubbing to the corners and spine ends. With some cracks and a little loss to the cloth on the spine head. A tiny hole to the cloth on the rear spine joint. The gilt on the spine has dulled a little in comparison to the front.
