1890 Cassell's Popular Gardening / Antique Book Set in 4 Volumes / Very Good Condition / Richly Illustrated Throughout Plus Four in Colour

In very good condition, here is an extremely comprehensive and richly illustrated antique set of gardening books. Cassell's Popular Gardening in undated but would have been published in London in 1890. With black and white diagrams on almost every page and with a colour frontispiece at the beginning of each volume.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with light scattered spotting in the text. A couple of volumes have an inked name on the verso of the frontispieces. Volume I has a cracked hinge at the back to reveal webbing, but the binding of the text block is good and strong. The frontispiece of Volume I has smudging where it looks as if some pencil has been erased. All volumes have some spotting to the closed outside edges.

Green cloth covered boards have ornate black and gilt decoration to the fronts and spines, and bevelled edges. Again all in top order. Volume III has a few scuffs to the top front corner. There is a little rubbing to the cloth on the corners and spine ends. All are bright and unfaded, with shiny gilt. Looking extremely eye-catching on display.
