This is an extremely early edition of Jo's Boys by Louisa May Alcott. Published in 1888 by Roberts Brothers of Boston, that is just two years after the first edition was released. This copy is in the identical design of binding and so looks the same as the very first editions.
Jo's Boys, A Sequel to "Little Men" is the final book in the unofficial Little Women series. In it, Jo's children, now grown, are caught up in real world troubles.
Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with just the occasional spot and brown blemish. Opens with floral endpapers where there is a name inscribed on the front paste down (see photos). There is no other writing or markings of previous ownership. Has a black and white portrait frontispiece with tissue guard, else unillustrated. There is a sixteen page publisher's catalogue at the end of the book which is richly illustrated. The book has developed a lean with time.
In dark green cloth covered boards with black and red decoration to the front and spine, and gilt titles. Has some white marks on the front and back and some very mild rubbing to the cloth at the corners and spine ends.
