1885 Poems by Henry W Longfellow / David Bogue, London / Beautiful Full Blue Leather Binding / Marbled Sides and Endpapers / Illustrated

In good condition here is a beautiful antique copy of the Poems of Henry W Longfellow. Published in 1885 by David Bogue, London. In a lovely dark blue full leather binding and with ten black and white illustrations.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound with marbled edges. The book opens onto marbled endpapers with a super Ex Libris book plate on the front paste down and a prize book plate opposite on the front free endpaper. Has a portrait frontispiece with tissue guard and nine further black and white illustrations (see photos). With a thin dark blue place marker ribbon sewn in.

In a high quality dark blue leather binding which has a gilt vignette on the centre of the front board and ornate gilt decoration to the spine with a red leather title plate. The boards have ornate gilt dentelles around the outside edges. At nearly 140 years old there is inevitably a little shelf wear nicks and scuffs to the surface leather but this is only really visible upon holding the book right up to the light. There is some rubbing and the odd chip around the edges with some rubbing away of the surface blue in places. With a few small chips to the the leather down the spine joints and rubbing again at the very head and tail of the spine. The spine has five raised bands and six compartments. With beautiful bright gilt work in five and with a red leather title plate in the sixth.
