A large antique version of fifteen Charles Dickens' Christmas Stories. Also bound here with The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Reprinted Pieces and other stories. Undated but would have been published around 1880 by Chapman & Hall, London. This is a large-sized book in a high quality leather binding. With a number of black and white illustrations by Dalziel and other artists.
Includes The Holly-Tree Inn and The Seven Poor Travellers amongst the Christmas tales. These are Christmas short stories and so do not include the longer novella A Christmas Carol.
Edwin Drood, Reprinted Pieces etc. are bound first and the Christmas Stories start half-way through the book. The Mystery of Edwin Drood was Dickens' final work. Upon his death on 9th June 1870, the novel was left unfinished in his writing desk, only six of a planned twelve instalments having been written.
Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. With some scattered occasional spotting and the odd brown blemish. The text is arranged in double columns and there are decorative initials. There are many illustrations in the text. There are also some plate illustrations. These are mispaginated in that they do not correspond with the numbers in the index. There are four plate illustrations stated in The Christmas Stories, whilst there are only three present. The closed outside edges are tinted marbled red, and they also have some spotting.
In a black leather binding with marbled papered sides. Has some rubbing to the marbled paper and also to the leather corner pieces. The spine has four raised bands with shiny gilt decoration and a red Moroccan leather title plate with gilt titles. The spine looks eye-catching on display.
Your antique copy of Edwin Drood, Christmas Stories etc. by Charles Dickens will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon and sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift message to the parcel if desired.
PLEASE NOTE DIMENSIONS of this large book: H 25.5 cm x W 20 cm, 1.3 kg. I dispatch worldwide daily from the UK. (There are just a very few countries which I am unable to ship to).
* If you would prefer for your book not to be decoratively wrapped but sent simply in the full protective packaging please add a note to the order.
