From 1866, here is a charming antique hardback copy of The Poetical Works of Oliver Goldsmith. Published nearly 140 years ago by Charles Griffin and Company, London. In lovely decorative boards, illustrated and with gilt edged pages.

Inside the book opens with an inscription dated 1889 on the front free endpaper. Otherwise pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. With a portrait frontispiece, tissue guard and numerous black and white illustrations in the text. Has a cracked hinge at the front but the binding of the text block is good and strong.

Blue cloth covered boards have ornate gilt decoration to the front, back and spine, and have bevelled edges. In good order with lovely gilt. Has some rubbing to the cloth on the corners, and also to spine ends where there is some loss to the cloth (see photos). With a small chip to the cloth on the front fore-edge.
