A super antique edition of Gilbert White's A Natural History of and Antiquities of Selborne. Published in 1853 by Nathaniel Cooke., London. Richly illustrated and this edition also has a black and white map of the area surrounding Selborne. This book is remarkably 170 years old and has remained in good condition, with just a few condition points to note, detailed below. Scarce in the original decorative boards.
Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Has an inscription on the front free endpaper dated 1924, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. With tanning and spotting to the endpapers, map and page edges and then just lightly scattered through the text. The top closed edge has some toning. Partially cracked hinges give the boards a very slight wobble but the binding of the text block remains strong and tight. Has four engraved plates and then sixty-three in the text. The map is engraved by John Dower.
Olive green cloth covered boards have blind stamped decoration to the front and back, with gilt to the spine. Has some rubbing at the head and tail of the spine which has led to a small amount of loss to the cloth at the top (see close-up photo).
Your antique copy of The Natural History of Selborne will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message to the parcel.
H 19.5 cm x W 13.5 cm, 342 pages, 0.45 kg. I dispatch worldwide daily from the UK. (There are just a very few countries which I am unable to ship to).
* If you would prefer for your books not to be decoratively wrapped but sent simply in the full protective packaging please add a note to the order.
