A children's classic adventure novel. This is a charming vintage edition of Winter Holiday by Arthur Ransome being a nineteenth impression from 1949. Published by Jonathan Cape, London. Richly illustrated. The contents are in good condition. With the original jacket, which has some wear, detailed below.

Winter Holiday is the fourth book in the Swallows and Amazons series by Arthur Ransome. It was first published in 1933. In this story, the third set of major characters in the series, the Ds — Dick and Dorothea Callum—are introduced. The series' usual emphasis on boats and sailing is largely absent, as the story is set in the winter. Instead, the children's activities focus on ice skating, signalling with semaphore and Morse code, and sledging. Whilst a sequel each book in the Swallows series stands on its own as an individual novel.

Inside the contents are in good condition. Opens onto super endpapers printed with hand drawn maps. Richly illustrated in line. Has some light tanning and spotting to the closed outside edges. This copy has not been written in and there are no other markings of previous ownership.

Still has the original orange and black dust wrapper. This has some edge wear creasing and has some nicks and chips along the top and bottom, and to the corners. There is one larger closed tears on the rear top edge. With some loss at the head and tail of the spine (see photos). The jacket has now been protected for the future by the addition of a removable plastic sleeve, and despite some wear looks very presentable.
