In good condition here is an antique copy of The Pictorial Edition of The Works of Shakspere The Doubtful Plays etc. Undated but looks to have been published in the 1890s by JS Virtue & Co., London. Richly illustrated throughout with superb engraved illustrations (see photos). A large format hardback (see dimensions below).
Contents: Titus Andronicus; Pericles; The Two Noble Kinsmen. Plays Ascribed to Shakspere: Locrine; Sir John Oldcastle; The Life and Death of Thomas Lord Crowmwell; The London Prodigal; The Puritan; A Yorkshire Tragedy; Arden of Feversham; The Reign of King Edward III; George-A-Greene; Fair Em; Mucedorus; The Birth of Merlin; The Merry Devil of Edmonton.
Inside the pages are in excellent condition being clean, bright and tightly bound with just the odd bit of spotting. There is a nick to the bottom edge of the front free endpaper. This copy has not been written in and there are no other markings of previous ownership. The top edge is tinted red, there is spotting to the closed outside edges.
Red cloth covered boards have fared well. There is some rubbing to the corners and in one area on the back board, else clean and un-faded. With a shiny gilt crest in the middle of the front board. The red faux leather spine has faded a bit and there is some rubbing to the head, tail and to an area next to the titles.
