Multiple fantastic illustrations by a number of highly collectable artists in this large-format antique children's' book. The Big Book of Pictures and Stories is undated but I'm assuming it would have been published in the 1920s by Blackie & Son, London. This is an extremely large book (see below for dimensions), this makes the illustrations all the more striking.
With thirty-two colour plates and many more line drawings. Some of the highlights are six colour plates by Florence Harrison; two by Anne Anderson; four by A Appleton; four by Agnes Richardson; three by Frank Adams and a black and white page of cats by Louis Wain (see photos).
Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Opens onto illustrated endpapers with some mild spotting, but minor. Has a pencilled list of the illustrators at the top of the front free endpaper which I have left in place for your reference, but it could easily be erased. Has an inscription on the verso of the title page (see photos). With one small tear to the top of one page, but nowhere near the text.
Boards have the illustration to the front, plain grey on the back, with a blue cloth spine. Has rubbing around the outside of the boards to reveal boards underneath the paper in the corners, otherwise the front board has remained in super condition. With a few marks to the back board. The blue cloth on the spine has rubbed and split a little at the bottom, (see close-up photos), otherwise also very good.
Your antique copy of The Big Book of Pictures and Stories will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and will be sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message to the parcel.
