c1900 The Casquet of Gems - Choice Selections From the Poets - Antique Illustrated Book

In very good condition, here is a striking antique copy of Casquet of Gems - Choice Selections From the Poets. Undated, but would have been published in the late 1800s, early 1900s by William P Nimmo of London and Edinburgh. In a beautiful binding, with six black and white illustrations and all edges are gilt. Condition in detail below.

Contains works from Cowper; Spenser; Ben Jonson; Byron; Pope; Milton; Goldsmith; Scott; Wordsworth and Burns amongst many others.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Has an inked inscription to the front free endpaper dated 1910, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. Has tanning and spotting to the endpapers and early pages, then just the occasional spot scattered in the text. Has a cracked hinge early on, but in no way effecting the binding of the text block, whish is good and strong. The illustrations are all in top order and the outer gilt edges are shiny bright.

Blue cloth over boards have ornate black and gilt decoration to the front and spine, and a sunken panel to the upper front centre. All in excellent condition. Just a little rubbing to the corners and to the spine ends, and a few lines across the lower back panel. The gilt is sparkly bright and this is an extremely eye-catching book.
