c1895 British Butterflies by WS Coleman / George Routledge and Sons, London / 15 Lovely Colour Plates / Descriptions of Every Native Species

In very good condition, this is a delightful Victorian book on British Butterflies by WS Coleman. Undated but would have been published around 1895 by George Routledge & Sons, London. Containing fifteen excellent colour plates and two further hand drawn monochrome plates. The book has figures and descriptions of every native species of the time. There is also a good deal of general background information on butterflies. At the rear of the book are a Synomic List of British Butterflies; an Index of Latin Names and an Index of English Names.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with no writing or inscriptions. Has mild tanning to the endpapers.

Green and blue cloth covered boards have a butterfly illustration to the front. Again all in good order - clean and smart. Has some rubbing to the spine ends and joints, with a small hole in the cloth on the rear joint. Has a crease across the top corner of the front board. Titles on the front and spine remain bright.
