Antique Cookery Book: Science in the Kitchen by Mrs Kellogg

In good condition, here is a scarce antique cookery book. An important one too being a precursor to modern dietetics, an early advocation of vegetarianism and representing a shift to methodical science based preparation. Science in the Kitchen by Mrs Kellogg. Being a third edition from 1898. Mrs EE Kellogg was the wife of John Harvey Kellogg of the cereal fame.

Scientific approach to cooking: Kellogg emphasizes the chemistry and physiology of food, aiming to educate readers on how ingredients interact with the body.
Vegetarian focus: The book advocates a plant-based diet.
Practical recipes: Includes hundreds of recipes designed to be nutritious, simple, and free from stimulants like caffeine and spices.

Richly illustrated and has three colour plates.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with no writing or inscriptions. Has light spotting to the prelims and the occasional brown blemish. The outside edges have a marbled effect.

White boards have black decoration to the front and spine. The main condition point to note being a brown stain line down the front board. Otherwise just some faint dark marks but nothing too obtrusive, and some mild rubbing to the corners and spine ends.
