Antique Charles Dickens Christmas Books: Art Nouveau Illustrated Edition

In good condition, here is a striking antique copy of the Christmas Books of Charles Dickens. Undated but would have been published in the early 1900s by Griffith, Farran and Browne, London. Lovely Art Nouveau decorative boards. With a repaired tear to one page being the main condition point to note.

The Christmas books are made up of five Christmas novellas: A Christmas Carol; The Chimes; The Cricket on the Hearth; The Battle of Life and The Haunted Man.

Inside the pages have tanned, but are otherwise clean and tightly bound. No writing or markings of previous ownership. As mentioned above, one of the pages (p.105) has a tear across the centre. This has been well repaired with professional tape and so you can easily see the text underneath. The tape looks to have been added quite some time ago as it has also tanned over time. All outside edges are shiny gilt.

Red cloth over boards have black stamped decoration to the front and spine, and gilt titles. Also in good order. Light rubbing and rounding to corners and spine ends. Fading next to the spine on the back. Front board is in superb order, with just a couple of very faint dark marks - but minor. The red of the spine has faded a bit in comparison to the front and back. But the decoration remains bright, and this is an eye-catching book.
