1948 Fairy Tales & Legends by Hans Andersen / SCARCE JACKET / The Bodley Head, London / Super Rex Whistler Illustrations / Decorative Boards

In the scarce original dust jacket, here is an extremely elegant edition of The Fairy Tales and Legends of Hans Andersen, originally published in 1935 by Cobden-Sanderson, London with this copy being a Bodley Head reprint from 1948. A beautiful book with numerous tales and black and white illustrations throughout by Rex Whistler. Whistler (1905 – 1944) was an important British artist and illustrator who's career was tragically cut short by the Second World War. In good condition.

A comprehensive edition with forty-eight tales including The Emperor's New Clothes, The Ugly Duckling, The Snow Queen, The Little Mermaid and The Red Shoes amongst many others.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with no writing or other markings of previous ownership. Has some tanning and spotting to the closed outside edges (see final photo). Has ornately decorated endpapers to match the front boards. 

The boards have the ornate red decoration on both front, back and spine. Also in top order having been well protected by the dust wrapper.

The unclipped jacket is in fantastic condition. With just some mild spotting along the very edges and the odd tiny spot to the body of the jacket, but minor. It has now been protected for the future by the addition of a removable plastic archival sleeve.
