1940 Wayside and Woodland Trees by Edward Step / 24 Colour Plates

In very good condition, here is a lovely vintage hardback copy of Wayside and Woodland Trees A Pocket Guide To The British Sylva by Edward Step. Undated but a first edition published in 1940 by Frederick Warne & Co. of London. Superbly illustrated with 24 colour plates, 151 half-tone and 57 text figures. Also has the original unclipped dust jacket.

Pages are clean, bright and tightly bound, with some mild spotting to the endpapers. There is some toning along the top closed edge. The edges are marble flecked, as published. All of the superb plates are in great condition (see photos). With a small crack to the front hinge - but minor.

Green faux leather boards have bright gilt titles and gilt leaf decoration with black margins. In top order having been well protected by the dust wrapper.

The unclipped dust jacket itself is also lovely. Has some splits and small loss to the spine ends. With a little edge wear creasing along the edges, and rubbing to corners. It has now been protected for the future by the addition of a removable archival plastic sleeve.
