1937 Jane Austen and Steventon by Emma Austen-Leigh / Spottiswoode, Ballantyne & Co London / Charming and Extremely Scarce Guide and History

In good condition and definitely one for the collector, here is an extremely scarce first edition copy of Jane Austen and Steventon by Emma Austen-Leigh. Published in 1937 by Spottiswoode, Ballantyne & Co., Ltd of London. At time of writing I can find no other copy of the first edition for sale anywhere, and there are only a couple of second editions, and in nowhere near as good condition as this one. 

Very collectable this one owing to its scarcity and the fact it is a first edition by an Austen descendant.

Similar to a pamphlet in feel, but more comprehensive running to 54 pages. With delightful map endpapers (see photos) and fourteen black and white illustrations. Emma Austen-Leigh was a descendant of Jane Austen and wrote several works about Jane Austen and her life. She also authored "Jane Austen and Bath," another book that explores Jane Austen's experiences in Bath, a city that features prominently in her novels. This book provides a detailed account of Jane Austen's life in Steventon, Hampshire, where she was born and spent her early years. It offers insights into the environment and community that influenced Austen's writing and shaped her literary career.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound, with no writing or other markings of previous ownership. Has partially cracked hinges at the front and back, but in no way affecting the binding of the text block which is good and strong.

In salmon-pink papered card covers. Clean and smart with just a couple of small marks on the back, and some mild rolling and rubbing to the edges.
