1920s Hans Andersen's Fairy Stories - Vintage - Tarrant Illustrations

Here is a lovely antique edition of Hans Andersen's Fairy Stories. Undated, but research shows it would have been published by Ward, Lock and Co., Ltd of London in the 1920s. With 48 wonderful colour plates by Margaret Tarrant. Has some foxing to the pages being the main condition point to note (common with this edition), otherwise in good clean and smart condition. Contents: The Little Swineherd or The Prince in Disguise; The Nightingale; The Steadfast Tin Soldier; The Emperor's New Clothes; The Real Princess; The Ugly Duckling; The Flying Trunk; Thumbelisa; The Little Mermaid; The Tinder Box; The Candles; The Snow Queen.

As mentioned above, the pages have some fairly heavy spotting to the outside edges, and sporadic spotting scattered through the text. All of the colour plates are present as called for, and in very good condition. Also, has super colourful illustrated endpapers. You can just make out where a previous inscription has been erased on the verso of the front free endpaper, but otherwise no other writing or markings of previous ownership.

Bound in light brown cloth over boards with a pastedown illustration on the front, and black stamped decoration. In top order. Just one small brown mark on the front (see photos). A bright, smart and square copy.
