Incredibly scarce. Here is a beautiful first edition hardback copy of The Book of Fairy Poetry, Edited by Dora Owen. Published in 1920 by Longmans, Green & Co., London also known for publishing the coloured fairy book series edited by Andrew Lang. With absolutely delightful illustrations by Warwick Goble (see photos). This copy has some wear to the boards (detailed below) and has been re-backed. The contents are in good condition and all the colour plates are present. So despite some wear on the outside, this remains an absolutely lovely book. With poems from many different authors including JRR Tolkien's first poem for children Goblin Feet, Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market; Shakespeare and many, many more.

The book is divided into three parts: Part One is Fairy Stories; Part Two is Fairy Songs, Dances and Talks; and Part Three is Fairyland and Fairy Lore. 

Inside the pages are tightly bound. A couple of pages have been reinforced with tape at the hinge, but this is quite hard to spot. Opens onto decorative peacock endpapers. All sixteen colour plates are present, as called for. The last handful of pages at the end of the book have some faint damp staining marks. From a hundred years ago it has a pencilled name and date of 1925 on an early blank endpaper. With toning along the closed top edge.

Has been re-backed and the original grey cloth re-laid. With a lot of fading away of the original grey colour on the rear board cloth, and in patches on the front. The ornate dark blue decoration has rubbed away in areas on the spine, which has also tanned. Has some rubbing and rounding to the corners.
