A beautiful antique edition of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Published in 1914 by Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent & Co., London. Very different in feel and design to any other edition of A Christmas Carol that I have come across. With eight gorgeous colour illustrations by Honor Appleton, (see photos). With a bit of wear to the boards (detailed below), but remaining a super copy.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Has two inscriptions on the verso of the front free endpaper dated 1914 and 1924. With decorative endpapers. The colour frontispiece illustration has the original tissue guard still in place - with a few creases. All of the colour plates are present as called for. Gapes at the gutter in a couple of places but the binding is very good and strong.

Blue cloth covered boards have gilt and silver decoration to the front and spine and a colour paste down. With some rubbing and rounding to the corners. Has a little rubbing to the paste down on the front and also to the blue cloth in the bottom corner. Has some marks and rubbing to the rear board. The spine has tanned in comparison to the front and back and there is some rubbing and fraying to the cloth at the head and tail. With a crease across the top and a small split at the top spine joint with the rear board. The decoration remains visible and despite a bit of wear, this is a very attractive antique edition.
