1912 Romance & Legend of Chivalry by AR Hope-Moncrieff / Gresham Publishing / Richly Illustrated in Colour and BW / In Good Condition

In good condition here is a beautiful copy of Romance & Legend of Chivalry by AR Hope-Moncrieff. Undated, but research shows it to be a first edition published by The Gresham Publishing Company Ltd in 1912. A richly illustrated, very attractive book. The decorative boards are lovely and there are many black and white and colour illustrations (see photos).

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. With an Ex Libris bookplate and a date of 2017 on the front paste down. The main condition point to note being spotting to the early pages and edges, and then scattered sporadically through the text. The top closed edge is gilt. Beautifully illustrated with eight colour and twenty-seven monochrome plates taken from drawings and famous paintings. One of these is a double-page of the Round Table. The frontispiece colour illustration has the original tissue guard, clean and bright.

In extremely attractive olive-green illustrated cloth covered boards, and gilt titles. With ornate decoration to the front and spine. All un-faded, clean and bright. Has a small frayed area to the cloth at the foot of the spine, to reveal board beneath (see final close-up photo). With a little fraying in places to the cloth on the spine joints - but minor. One thin faint dark line to the top corner of the front. A few small spots to the top corner of the bottom board. Has slight rubbing to the cloth on the corners and spine ends. The decoration has remained bright, the gilt is sparkly and this is an extremely eye-catching book to display.
