1911 The All Sorts of Stories Book by Mrs Lang / First Edition, Longmans, Green & Co., London / Beautiful Antique Book / Richly Illustrated

A beautiful collection of short tales. Produced at the same time and by the same publisher as the highly collectable coloured Fairy Tales series by Andrew Lang. The All Sorts of Stories Book was originally published in 1911 by Longmans, Green and Co., London and this copy is one of those first editions. With the striking illustration of a floating fairy on the front. Richly illustrated with five colour and many more black and white plates, plus numerous illustrations in the text by HJ Ford. With some wear, (detailed below), but remaining a lovely book.

Contains thirty stories on a variety of subjects, including true stories, Greek myths, and tales by Alexandre Dumas, Walter Scott and Edgar Allan Poe amongst others.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Has an inked inscription from 1912 to the half-title page. There is a nick to one bottom edge, a crease across one page, and the main CONDITION POINT to note with the contents is a tear across one page near the end of the book (see photos). All edges are shiny gilt. All colour plates are present as called for, and all are in good condition.

Red cloth covered boards have the lovely gilt decoration to the front and spine. Has a fair amount of rubbing to the cloth on the corners and spine ends/joints. With some rubbing also to the red on the rear board to remove some of the surface red in places. The gilt on the front and spine remains very bright.
