1911 Our Old Nursery Rhymes - Illustrated by Willebeek le Mair - Antique Book

An absolute classic from the Golden Age of Illustration, here is an antique copy of Our Old Nursery Rhymes. Featuring the exquisite artwork of celebrated Dutch illustrator Henriette Willebeek le Mair and musical arrangements by Scottish composer Alfred Moffat. In very good condition - more details below.

It is an active musical score designed for families to gather around a piano. Comprising 30 beloved, traditional English nursery rhymes including "Mary Had a Little Lamb", "Three Blind Mice", "Sing a Song of Sixpence", and "Little Bo-Peep". Scottish composer Alfred Moffat harmonized the original, traditional tunes. He laid out the text and musical notation clearly on the right-hand pages, opposite the artwork.

Henriette Willebeek le Mair illustrations for this collection are noted for their delicate, dreamy quality. Both the oval paintings and the facing music pages are bordered with delicate, flowing illustrations of flowers, vines, and autumn foliage. Le Mair utilized a soft, flat watercolour palette dominated by pale blues, soft greens, creams, and gentle pinks.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Endpapers are mildly tanned. Has an inked inscription to the front free endpaper, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. One page has a small chip taken from the bottom edge.

Pale-blue cloth over boards have paste down decoration to the front, and gilt titles. Again all in top order. Just some slight rubbing to the cloth on the corners and spine ends, plus a small spot to the top of the front upper board near the spine.
